What?

The State Street Project will:

  • Improve safety and accessibility for all users
  • Prioritize pedestrians
  • Complete bikeway link to North University
  • Enhance street lighting
  • Provide more flexible curbside zones
  • Improve loading and pick up zones
  • Support special events and street closures
  • Improve drainage and better manage storm water

Why?

State Street is one of the most diverse downtown streets and the heart of the State Street District. We want to strengthen this street as a destination and ensure it serves the diverse needs of the neighborhood.

Who?

The Ann Arbor DDA is funding this project and will work closely with the City of Ann Arbor, downtown businesses, residents, visitors, and other stakeholders.

State Street from William to Huron

 

When?

This project will be sequenced in two phases:

Phase 1: June – Labor Day 2022 – update: the project has been delayed, concrete work will be taking place the first few weeks of September, for ongoing construction updates please join the State Street construction page on Facebook

Full reconstruction of street, streetscape, and intersections with curbless design from William to North University. Water main replacement from William to Liberty.

Phase 2: April – Labor Day 2023

Full reconstruction with curbless design and streetscape from North University to Washington.
